Department: Youth Ministry
Areas of Ministry: High School and Middle School
Family: My Lovely Baby Girl and wife, Janice, and three awesome children: Nathan, Sarah & Micah
Saved (Salvation Story): I grew up in a dysfunctional Christian home where my mom insisted that we go to private school. That said, I was exposed to the things of God at a very early age. In one of the weekly school devotionals – I was 8 or 9 - a teacher (don’t remember his name) spoke of Jesus in a way that resonated to my core and I knew there was another level of Christianity I had not yet reached and I wanted to make things right. And I did that day.
Unfortunately it took another 20 years of spiritual failures, backsliding, and full out rebellion against God on my part before I really understood and committed to a relationship with Abba Father. I owe a lot of my transformation to Janice, because it was her pursuit of Jesus, and my fear of losing her (to a pastor, no doubt), that brought me to a church where my spiritual bankruptcy was exposed and my rededication to the Father was established. I’ve not looked back since. And I never will.
One of the Things I Find Most Fascinating: I am absolutely enamored by babies and young children. I can’t explain it. Without exception, a baby will stop me in my tracks and bring a smile to my face and heart. When I consider that there once was a time when I really didn’t like kids or want any of my own, I call my love for children a miracle.
Food: My pallet is ever changing. I’m currently on an Indian kick.
Snack Food: I think it’s yogurt with fruit, but I’m not sure. Don’t hold me to that.
Dessert: French Vanilla ice cream is my “go to” dessert; you can’t go wrong with that. But I've got to tell you, I love me some flan. Especially if it’s homemade (FYI, I've got the hook up if you’re interested).
Movie: Anything “Golden Age”; Redford, Hepburn (Both), Stuart, McCall, Davis, Peck, Grant. I could go on but I won’t.
TV Show: I only watch sports and news. But if you box me into an answer, I’d have to say I occasionally dabble in some Flash (occasionally).
Musical Artist: I’m really feeling Jesus Culture and Bethel these days. Hillsong and Jonathan David Helser are in the mix as well.
Time of Day: Mornings, when I have the whole day ahead of me.
Season: Florida winters – no question.
Place in the World: Give me some Jesus and Janice and I’m good.
Place to Pray: In my prayer room at home
Recreational Activities/Hobbies: I like working out and watching sports (not necessarily in that order). I also like reading for the purpose of staying informed. It really doesn’t matter the topic as long as it is current. But the thing I love to do the most is study and teach the Bible. That is my place of true peace.
Scripture: Psalm 27:13-14 “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Sports Team: Really? It’s all about Miami baby!
Food: You haven’t seen me yet, have you.
Snack Food: Refer to above statement.
Sports Team: New York Jets. New England is a close 2nd. And might as well throw in the Bills. Do you see a trend forming?
MORE ABOUT ME
Life Motto: As you believe, it begins!
My Hero: Jesus is the obvious, singular choice for me. Who else would die for me, in spite of me, regardless if I reciprocated His affections or not. He has never - and will never - let me down and He has picked me up in more than a few occasions. I owe my life to Him, my wife and kids to Him, all that I have or ever will have to Him. My desire is, and I live, to know Him more and make Him known.
One of My Greatest Experiences with God: I recently had an opportunity to pray with our Pastor, Elders Beth and Cindy, and Janice for the Youth. I’ve never been so vulnerable in my life. To hear these women, giants in the Lord, cry out and intercede for our Youth…
…It broke me. I will never be the same again. Without a doubt I am convinced that an anointing for the Youth was placed over me and Janice by our leaders that is unmistakable and unshakable. It was then, and forever will remain, an indelible experience that I am sooooooo grateful for. Thank you Jesus.
Most People Don’t Know This About Me: I have an inordinate amount of socks, t-shirts, and underwear. It drives Janice crazy. Ask me about it sometime, I’ll fill you in as to why.
